Nothing new here, just some shots for EpiComp and a look back at 2022 Epic-wise. Not a whole lot of progress but I painted a fair bit of 15mm Americans and Romans last year. Not sure if I'll return to these guys this year. I've still got plenty Imperial Guard left to paint but I may move on to another Epic army for NEAT. We'll see, maybe I'll change my mind and paint some infantry for Steal Legion.
I've been painting my Turan Armored Company, on and off, for just just over two years now. With the exception of the Thunderbolts everything in the pictures below was finished in that time, some 5,000+ points. I've still got plenty left: 67 armored vehicles, 3 super-heavies, 40 Chimera and all the infantry I can pack into them. The plan is to keep plugging away until enough complaints have been filed and I move on to another Epic army. In the meantime, on to some 15mm Romans. I'll come back to these later in the year to round out my entries for EpiComp.
I can't remember for how long these Marauder Bombers have been sitting on my desk. They were originally slated to be part of the Knight army, but when I rebased those Thunderbolts to pull double duty with the Minervans these came a long for the ride. I've been meaning to finish converting and painting them so this was what I worked on these past two weeks as part of the great desk clean off.
To make them WYSIWYG I added a tail-chaser gun that matched the dorsel gun using a round-ended pin. The lascannons were chopped off of some SM.TL guardsmen and glued to the wings. Nothing fancy on the paint job, just matching what I did seven (!) years ago for the Knight's Thunderbolts.
I finished these up last week in preparation for NEAT. I forgot how quick 6mm tanks and the like paint up, these took 2-3 hours each. I have some Marauders that are close to done as well, I held off though as I wanted to put some lascannons on them.
So I can't post pics yet on what I've been working on these past couple of weeks, so in the mean time here's something I've been wanting to do for awhile, army pics!
All told, this is 10,150 points of Marines which I painted over the past two years (my first Battle Company was an Epicomp 2008 entry). I would have liked to finish them this year but it just wasn't in the cards (in case you're wondering I still want to do 3 THawks, a Reaver and Marauders, along with some rare tank variants "just cause"). So, rather than wait until I paint the tardy 1.5k, I'm cunningly going to distract you with these pics.
Fast attack and armor.
The first Battle Company and scouts.
Air support and transport.
The second Battle Company and scouts.
Titan support.
Spacecraft and Drop Pods.
First Company support.
Short of some protective coating and shrubbery they're done. Let us never speak of them again.
I meant to get pictures of the progress up last Friday but got distracted by the tournament. Anyway, here we go, six nearly done Thunderbolts... All that's left is the bases and highlights on five of them.
Here's a pic of their bellies.
In other news, it looks like Mongoose Publishing is picking up the Noble Armada line of miniatures and they will be re-released in 2011. So for people that liked the designs they should be available again soon.
Some more work on the TBolts, one is pretty much finished and I the others (bar one) got their black details done. I hope to do the gun-metal on the rest of them next week and start the shading.
Still not 100% happy with the finished one, I might try to lighten the highlight and see what that does for me.
So Monday turned out to be just a regular night of painting, most of the day was spent gaming. I got the gray base coat done on the top of the TBolts.
I also started highlighting and shading one of them. I'm still not completely happy with it, I'm going to try finishing up the details on it though and see what that does for me before moving onto the other five.
This was also Tyranid inventory week, where I went through and checked what I have spare and still need to build. While Dominique the glossy blue Dominatrix is all right, I'd prefer one that was cleaned and puttied to work on, so I started on this one.
I'm not a big fan of the E40k era Hive Tyrants, so I started converting my own as well. The body is an SM/TL era Zoanthrope body, minus the tail/stinger, a Biovore head and a E40k era Zoanthrope head cut in half for the back crests. I have to figure out the arms and then putty it but I think this is a good start.
I was going to work on these guys Monday but I forgot my gray for their bellies. I ended up finishing it over the course of the week but I didn't make as much progress as I hoped. With this coming Monday off though I should make some good headway.
I did finish my destroyers Monday night though. They look a little less red and a little more dark merlot/purple in real life but whatever.
This week you guys get a tour around my desk. In addition to continuing the "grass tufting" of my Marines...
I finished puttying the TBolts this week and got their base coat done...
Took a picture for OMan of the GZG artillery and AA tanks...
and stripped, re-based, primed and base coated a Starmada fleet. Matt and I started playing again after a long hiatus. My old color scheme wasn't doing it for me so I decided to try something new.
I think the highlight color is a little too bright though so I'm going to go 2:1 as opposed to 1:1 with the base:highlight mix. Thoughts?
Not a whole lot of painting this week, but I got some building done.
These are the Wolf light tanks all built and primed. Not sure why I bothered to take a picture, the "flat" gray primer is rather shiny and shows off none of the detail.
And these are my shiny GZG Jupiter tanks.
And another platoon of CH's infantry.
I finally got my magnetic adapters for my air force, so I spent some time getting my TBolts operational for a game on Wednesday. Once I'm done with the hounds I'll start work on these guys.
Finally, he's my progress on the hounds. I finished up the blue on lefty this week. I started painting the white on the head armor, but wasn't sure how much to paint white. The War Griffon's scheme has the entire head yellow, should I follow suite and do all white leaving none of the gunmetal details?
